INEOS Challenges Use of AC75 Ahead of Next America’s Cup

British team INEOS Britannia has issued a formal statement regarding the use of its AC75 race yacht from the 37th America’s Cup, raising concerns over its current status ahead of the next edition.

According to INEOS, the yacht—described as the most successful British America’s Cup boat to date—has been taken by Athena Racing without authorization. The team emphasized that the vessel remains its property and that any assumption it can be reused for future competition without consent is “inappropriate.”

The AC75 in question represents a significant investment, with INEOS stating the programme cost approximately £180 million, following an earlier development phase valued at an additional £170 million.

INEOS has confirmed that it is now taking legal action to secure the return of the yacht, marking a potential dispute that could impact preparations for the next America’s Cup cycle.

The situation introduces fresh uncertainty within the British America’s Cup campaign as teams begin to position themselves for the upcoming edition.
