SailGP: Australia dominate in Rio with perfect winning streak

The Bonds Flying Roos delivered a commanding performance at the Enel Rio Sail Grand Prix, winning all four races on the final day of competition and securing overall victory in Rio de Janeiro.

The Australian team, led by three-time Rolex SailGP Champion Tom Slingsby, swept the three qualifying races before taking the winner-takes-all final — a historic achievement in the six-season history of the league.

With gusty, unstable conditions across Guanabara Bay, teams battled shifting winds, swells, and tactical chaos beneath the iconic backdrop of Sugarloaf Mountain. But Australia remained composed throughout, adapting faster than the fleet and extending their dominance when it mattered most.

“We finally showed what we’re capable of when everything comes together,” said Slingsby. “It’s a really satisfying feeling for the whole team.”

Spain’s Los Gallos impressed again with consistent top-four finishes, ultimately securing second place overall, while Artemis Racing completed their first-ever SailGP podium in third after a breakthrough weekend performance.

Behind the podium, the U.S. team, Denmark, Germany, and Italy delivered solid but inconsistent campaigns, while reigning contenders Emirates GBR endured a difficult weekend, finishing last overall after a series of penalties, technical issues, and disrupted racing conditions.

Nearly 8,000 fans attended the inaugural Rio event, marking a successful debut for SailGP in Brazil and reinforcing the league’s global expansion strategy.

The series now moves to Bermuda for the next stop in the 2026 championship calendar.
