The Balearic Islands are entering the summer season on a positive note, reinforcing their position as Spain’s leading recreational boating market. According to the latest data released by the Asociación Nacional de Empresas Náuticas (ANEN), the islands recorded 308 recreational boat registrations between January and May 2026, representing an 11.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The Balearics now account for 13.8% of all boat registrations in Spain, maintaining their status as the country’s most important nautical market. Nationwide, registrations reached 2,228 units, up 10.6% from the 2,014 registrations recorded during the first five months of last year.
Balearics Lead National Rankings
At provincial level, the Balearic Islands topped the national ranking with 308 registrations, ahead of Barcelona with 291 and Murcia with 266. Together, these three provinces continue to drive a significant share of Spain’s boating activity.
Charter Market Remains a Key Strength
The Balearics also continue to dominate Spain’s charter sector. Between January and May 2026, the islands registered 165 boats for charter operations, virtually matching the 167 recorded during the same period last year.
These registrations represent 22.8% of the entire Spanish charter market, confirming the Balearics as the country’s leading destination for yacht and boat rental activity. Nationally, charter registrations reached 726 units, an increase of 11% year-on-year.
Barcelona followed with 119 charter registrations, while Murcia recorded 65 units.
Growth Across Larger Yacht Segments
Across Spain, vessels under six metres remain the largest segment, accounting for 65.6% of the market with 1,462 registrations. However, some of the strongest growth was recorded in larger yacht categories:
- 8–12 metres: +13.4%
- 12–16 metres: +21.7%
- Over 16 metres: 42 registrations, representing 1.9% of the market
The figures highlight growing demand for larger recreational yachts as confidence in the sector continues to strengthen.
Motorboats and Sailing Yachts Gain Momentum
Motorboats remain the dominant category, representing 46.9% of all registrations with 1,046 units, a growth of 17.5% compared to 2025.
Other segments also posted positive results:
- Jet skis: 604 registrations (+15.5%)
- Sailing yachts: 95 registrations (+25%)
- Inflatable boats: 230 registrations (-0.9%)
- Rigid inflatable boats (RIBs): 222 registrations (-7.9%)
Positive Outlook for Summer
With strong registration figures, continued leadership in the charter sector, and growing demand across multiple vessel categories, the Balearic Islands are well positioned for another successful summer season. As one of the Mediterranean’s most important yachting destinations, the region continues to demonstrate its resilience and appeal to both private owners and charter clients from around the world.
