Ferrari has unveiled the innovative energy management system behind its groundbreaking 30-metre Hypersail, an ocean-racing foiling monohull currently under construction in Pisa, Italy. Scheduled to launch in late 2026 and enter competition in 2027, Hypersail is set to become the first yacht of its size capable of operating entirely on renewable energy.

Designed for complete energy autonomy, the yacht will generate power from solar panels, wind turbines and crew-produced energy, eliminating the need for fossil fuels while sailing offshore.

At the heart of the project is Ferrari’s new Winch by Wire technology, which converts the physical effort of the crew directly into electrical energy. The system allows sailors to operate high-load sail controls with greater efficiency while simultaneously powering onboard systems through electricity generated during grinding.

Below deck, Hypersail relies on an advanced 800V electrical architecture with twin high-voltage battery packs and an intelligent Flight Controller that manages the yacht’s foils, keel and flight stability using only renewable energy collected while underway.
The yacht also features 100 square metres of integrated solar panels, seamlessly built into the deck and hull sides, alongside removable stern-mounted wind turbines that further contribute to the vessel’s energy independence.

Designed by renowned naval architect Guillaume Verdier in collaboration with Ferrari’s engineering and design teams, Hypersail combines cutting-edge marine technology with the unmistakable styling of the Italian marque. Its sleek carbon-fibre hull is accented with Ferrari’s iconic Nuovo Giallo Fly yellow, inspired by the brand’s legendary racing heritage.
Currently in the final stages of construction, the Ferrari Hypersail represents a bold step into the future of sustainable offshore racing, bringing automotive innovation to the world of high-performance sailing while redefining what is possible in self-sufficient yacht design.
