Port Med Formentera has been selected by the Balearic Port Authority (APB) as the preferred operator to manage and operate La Savina Marina in Formentera for the next 16 years, following a competitive public tender.
The winning proposal includes a committed investment of €16.66 million aimed at transforming the marina through a comprehensive modernization programme, enhancing port services and strengthening the integration of the marina with its urban and natural surroundings.
The concession covers approximately 28,000 square metres of water area, including the eastern and western basins and the commercial quay, together with 13,800 square metres of land comprising berths, commercial premises, dry marina facilities, fuel services and parking areas.
According to the Balearic Port Authority, Port Med Formentera’s proposal received the highest overall score thanks to its strong architectural, operational and environmental vision. The project includes a redesigned waterfront with landscaped public spaces, new urban furniture and improved pedestrian connections between the marina and Formentera’s seafront promenade.
The redevelopment will also feature a new commercial building with more open and flexible retail spaces, redesigned terraces, and a new underground car park offering 90 parking spaces, improving accessibility for visitors and marina users.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project. Planned environmental initiatives include the installation of artificial micro-reefs developed by Ocean Ecostructures, the use of ECOncrete technology on new mooring blocks to enhance marine biodiversity, and the Bioremed Savina project, developed in collaboration with Mediterranean Algae, to help reduce water eutrophication within the harbour.
In addition, the marina will introduce charging stations for personal mobility devices and a 150 kW ultra-fast electric vehicle charging station (2 x 75 kW), supporting cleaner and more sustainable transport.
The concession represents another important step in the Balearic Port Authority’s strategy to modernise the ports of the Balearic Islands, delivering smarter, greener and more efficient marina infrastructure while improving the experience for residents, visitors and the nautical community.
With this long-term investment, La Savina Marina is set to become one of the Mediterranean’s leading examples of sustainable marina development, combining modern infrastructure, environmental innovation and high-quality services in one of the region’s most iconic island destinations.
