The Royal Palace of La Almudaina provided a spectacular setting for the closing ceremony of the 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE, with King Felipe VI presenting trophies to the winners following a week of world-class sailing in Palma Bay.
The ceremony brought together the leading teams from the 2026 edition, alongside representatives of the Balearic Islands’ institutions, sponsors and the sailing community.
Among the authorities attending were Marga Prohens, President of the Balearic Government; Jaime Martínez, Mayor of Palma; Gabriel Le Senne, President of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands; Llorenç Galmés, President of the Consell de Mallorca; Rafael Gil, President of the Real Club Náutico de Palma; Joaquín González, President of the Balearic Sailing Federation; Elena Sanz, CEO of Mapfre Iberia; and Ricardo Esteban, Commander General of the Balearic Islands.
Six Class Champions
After a week of intense competition, six teams claimed class victories.
Spain’s Teatro del Soho San Miguel, owned by Javier Banderas, won the Uber ORC B class, while Nadir secured the ClubSwan 42 title. Baleària Team RCNP, led by María Bover, took victory in the Baleària Women’s Cup.
Italy’s Vudu, with Mauro Gestri, won Abanca ORC 0, Germany’s Niramo, led by Sönke Meier, claimed Azulmarino ORC C, and Estonia’s Nola, owned by Taavet Hinrikus, triumphed in Sail Racing ORC A.
The combined results across the ORC classes crowned Nola as the overall champion of the 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE on corrected time. The team was helmed by Margus Uudam, with Portuguese Olympic medallist Hugo Rocha calling tactics.
Corinthian Champions
The event also recognised the leading all-amateur teams in the Corinthian division.
L’Immens took the Uber ORC B Corinthian title, while Germany’s Meerblick, owned by Gabrielle Pohlmann, won the Azulmarino ORC C Corinthian classification.
King Felipe VI and Hispania
King Felipe VI, who competed throughout much of the regatta as skipper of Hispania, also featured among the prize winners.
The Spanish Navy Sailing Commission team finished runner-up in the highly competitive Abanca ORC 0 class, with Hispania also taking victory in the final race of the championship.
During the ceremony, King Felipe presented the runner-up trophy to Admiral Jaime Rodríguez-Toubes.
The trophy presentation marked the conclusion of another successful edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, reinforcing Palma’s position as one of the world’s leading destinations for international sailing and one of the key events of the Mediterranean racing calendar.
The 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE took place from 1–8 August 2026 in Palma de Mallorca.
