The 31st edition of the Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta is bringing the world of classic sailing back to Palma, with 39 historic and classic yachts gathering at Club de Mar-Mallorca from 11 to 15 August 2026.
Now firmly established as an important event on the international classic-yacht calendar, the regatta celebrates sailing heritage while highlighting the importance of preserving the Mediterranean’s maritime culture.
This year’s fleet includes several remarkable yachts, with two particularly significant anniversaries taking centre stage. Eilean, the celebrated 1936 bermudian ketch designed by William Fife III and built by Fife of Fairlie, marks its 90th anniversary. Meanwhile, Bon Temps celebrates 100 years since her launch, adding another historic milestone to this year’s fleet.
Racing across the Bay of Palma
The fleet will compete across several divisions, including Classic, Vintage, RI Classic, Spirit of Tradition and Large Yacht classes. A special Presencia category will also allow distinctive yachts such as La Balear, Alzina and Rafael Verdera to participate without racing.
Courses will be adapted to the prevailing weather conditions, with race distances ranging from approximately 8 to 22 nautical miles. The Marinepool Trophy will take place on 12 August, ahead of the main Illes Balears Clàssics races from 13 to 15 August.
Sustainability is also part of the event’s programme. Club de Mar-Mallorca will donate all proceeds from beverage sales during the regatta to Almas Marinas, a foundation dedicated to environmental awareness and education.
Celebrating maritime heritage
Beyond the racing, the event features an extensive social and cultural programme. Highlights include the presentation of Luis Tourón Figueroa’s book Los barcos de D. Juan de Borbón, un marino singular, exhibitions by artist Patrick Harris and underwater photographer Beatriz García, a wine tasting and the traditional crew party featuring a fideuà prepared by the Fishermen’s Guild and live music from Mama Kin.
Club de Mar-Mallorca will also open its doors to the public on Friday 14 August from 18:00 to 20:00, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the atmosphere surrounding one of the Mediterranean’s leading classic-yacht gatherings.
The Illes Balears Clàssics forms part of the Mare Nostrum Classic Trophy – Spanish Classic Sailing Cup, the CIM 2026 Circuit and the Mediterranean Champions Cup, organised by the Vintage Classic Yacht Club.
With its combination of competitive sailing, historic yachts and maritime culture, the 2026 Illes Balears Clàssics once again underlines Palma’s position as a major international centre for classic sailing and yacht heritage.
