The ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix delivered a spectacular opening day in Sassnitz, with six races, five different winners and a new SailGP speed record.
DS Automobiles SailGP Team France reached an extraordinary 107.63 km/h, breaking the previous record of 103.93 km/h set at the same venue last year.
With Baltic winds exceeding 40 km/h, the F50s were pushed to their limits. ROCKWOOL Racing also surpassed its previous record, reaching 106.79 km/h before a dramatic high-speed nosedive, while Spain’s Los Gallos reached 106.55 km/h.
On the leaderboard, Australia leads Group B with 10 points, while New Zealand tops Group A with 12 points after a strong performance from Peter Burling and the Black Foils.
Germany also delighted the sold-out home crowd with a race victory, while France, New Zealand, Denmark and Spain all delivered standout performances.
The action continues today, 23 August, with the remaining fleet races followed by a winner-takes-all Grand Final.
Sassnitz has once again proved why it is one of the fastest and most spectacular venues in SailGP.
