2020 Bol d’Or Mirabaud cancelled

Due to the progression of COVID-19, we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 Bol d’Or Mirabaud, scheduled to take place June 13 and 14.

After evaluating various options for maintaining or rescheduling the event, in light of the current health situation, the Organizing Committee saw no alternative. It’s not a time when sailing is a high priority and certainly not a time for celebration. The goal of the committee is to preserve the BOM the way it is most appreciated by competitors and the public: a popular celebration on and around the lake. That’s why the next edition has now been scheduled for June 11-13, 2021.

“It’s become unthinkable to stick with the June 13, 2020 date, given the expected prolongation of the health crisis, its socio-economic effects and the resulting organizational challenges,” explains Rodolphe Gautier. “Of course, we looked at the possibility of delaying, but it wasn’t feasible. In fact, the only feasible weekend to bring together all the ingredients necessary for a successful 82nd edition was September 25-26. We fear that this date is too late in the season, with shorter days and colder nights, not to mention numerous other events that would be competing for attention at the same time.

The Organizing Committee and the SNG will show their support to the University of Geneva Hospitals by making a joint contribution to a special COVID-19 fund recently established. Here’s the link for those interested.

“Groupe Mirabaud supports the Bol d’Or Mirabaud Organizing Committee in its decision to cancel the 2020 edition,” shares Nicolas Mirabaud, managing partner of Groupe Mirabaud. “During a time of such uncertainty, it’s important to redefine priorities. The lake celebration is a moment we all look forward to each year, but now we need to concentrate on essential matters such as the health and safety of participants, employees, staff, clients and vendors. We imagine the disappointment this decision will cause, but we can already confirm Mirabaud will be at the Organizing Committee’s sides in 2021. We will come back even stronger! Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.”

We thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you next year: June 11-13, 2021.

Good luck and especially good health to all!
