Splendid Mare Cup, Portofino is ready to welcome maxi yachts

A little less than two days before the official start of the Spring Regattas – Splendido Mare Cup which will begin on Wednesday 5 May with the arrival of the registered boats and the registration formalities. The action at sea is from Thursday 6 May at 11 with the start of the first test. The regattas continue until Sunday 9 May with the award ceremony at 5.30 pm on the Portofino descent.

Meanwhile the village is preparing to welcome all the boats that will be moored on the docks of the Marina Yacht Portofino and at the buoys in the bay; the first boats are expected tomorrow for the preparation of the hulls and for the first training sessions in the waters of the gulf. Some boats will instead be hosted in Santa Margherita Ligure.

Here is the definitive entry list of the boats registered by the shipyards involved – Wally, Southern Wind Shipyard, Nautor’s Swan and Mylius – and the yachts belonging to the International Maxi Association and those of YCI members.

The trophies
Up for grabs in Portofino for the Spring Regattas – Splendido Mare Cup, the new trophy specially commissioned by the Italian Yacht Club to Maestro Marcello Morandini, architect, sculptor and designer who, with his unmistakable style, created the special Challenge Trophies for the first classified in the Racer and Cruiser classes. A tribute inspired by the sea and sailing by an artist who has always been out of the choir, Morandini measured himself from an early age and during his fifty years of experience with an international dimension, exhibiting his creations in the most important museums and places of culture around the world. In addition to these, the IMA Trophies for the best classified among IMA members of each class,
Special Veuve Clicquot prizes for the top three in the two classes.
