Collaborating to promote innovation and sustainability around the world
B&G, the world’s leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist, are pleased to announce their partnership with Team Malizia and Boris Herrmann.
Headed up by founder, Pierre Casiraghi, and sailor, Boris Herrmann, the team’s mission is to promote ocean science, protection and education around the world. With Malizia II, a newly upgraded foiling IMOCA 60′, the team have their sights set on the 2020 Vendée Globe. With the support of the latest B&G marine electronics on board, Boris Herrmann will be the first German sailor to ever attempt this ultimate race of endurance.
As well as competing in sailing races around the world, Team Malizia are collecting vital ocean CO2 data from a laboratory on board Malizia II, this data assists scientists in better understanding climate change within the ocean. The team have also teamed up with schools around the world to inspire young ambassadors with their sailing adventures.
“I am delighted to be partnering with B&G, I have used their products for many years and have always been impressed with their innovative and high-quality products. Having their renowned expertise and race-proven technology on board will be a great asset towards the Vendee Globe. As a team, we aim to deliver sailing success but also on a wider scale with our Malizia Ocean Challenge, where we focus on protecting our oceans through science and education. As sailors, we see first-hand changes in our environment. It is not enough to just sail fast. We have to work towards solutions to fight the climate crisis and we have to start now. I am looking forward to working on this topic with B&G and to see how we can adapt and use their technology to further scientific research.” says Boris Herrmann.
B&G are extremely proud to be supporting Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia and are much aligned with their mission and goals. “B&G is dedicated to ensure we operate sustainably and protect the environment, as best we can” said Simon Conder, Head of B&G. “Working together to develop ideas and future technologies with Team Malizia in their ocean climate research mission, as well as to win the Vendee Globe, is one such way we are looking to put our 50 years of cutting-edge innovation and passion for sailing to good use,” he adds.
