American Magic, led by Terry Hutchinson, secured a remarkable victory in the first Preliminary Regatta of the 2024 America’s Cup.

The team delivered a polished performance, clinching two race wins and a second-place finish, narrowly leading Emirates Team New Zealand by just one point as they headed into the final race.

In a surprising turn of events, the American team challenged the reigning America’s Cup champions. Despite moments of brilliant sailing by the Kiwis, they faced unexpected pressure during critical moments of the regatta, all while racing in AC40 One Designs.
On the concluding day of the first Preliminary Regatta of the 2024 America’s Cup, following two races, the eventual finalists found themselves separated by a mere two points. The outcome of the third race seemed almost a formality.

Emirates Team New Zealand, holding the overnight points lead, made a strong comeback following their disappointing performance in Race 2 on Saturday. They led the way in Race 3 on Sunday from start to finish, with both boats consistently hitting speeds exceeding 30 knots in an 8-knot breeze. The Kiwis secured victory in the race by a 40-second margin, covering the six-leg course in just under 22 minutes, while American Magic (USA) claimed second place and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (ITA) took third.”
