The Hungarian crew composed of Soma Kis-Szölgyémi and András Juhász successfully defended their championship title at MedSailing in the waters of the Club Nàutic El Balís. Second place went to Italians Giuseppe Montesano and Enrico Coslovich, with the Polish duo Ewa Lewandowska and Krysztof Krolik taking third.

Once again, MedSailing was a scoring event for the 29er EuroCup circuit.

Kis-Szölgyémi and Juhász started as one of the top contenders and proved their worth in the last and only race held in the Final Series this Sunday. The Hungarians finished second in the fifth race, propelling them to the top spot. Meanwhile, the leaders until yesterday, Italians Alex Demutras and Giovanni Santi, scored a 43, condemning them to eighteenth place in the final standings, as their discard was a BFD (black flag) from the first day.

Following the Hungarians, Italians Montesano and Coslovich, who finished fourth in the final race, also climbed onto the podium, securing second place just two points behind the champions.

Meanwhile, the only crew that managed to stay on the podium throughout MedSailing was the Polish duo of Lewandowska and Krolik, who, after leading the overall standings after the third race, eventually settled for third place.

Canarians Inés Martín-Urda and Natalia Méndez were the top Spanish crew, finishing MedSailing in 40th place.

MedSailing 2024 was marked by challenging weather conditions. After the first and third days were windless, the second day saw four races, with only one race held on the final day.

MedSailing 2024 will have a second part with the celebration of the 49erFX Open Series at the Club Nàutic El Balís from February 20 to 23.
