Austria-Based Design Firm, Design Storz, Unveils Skia: An Innovative Superyacht Concept Redefining Boundaries

Described by its creator as a “state-of-the-art” masterpiece, Skia is a sleek, eye-catching vessel characterized by luxury and sophistication inside and out. It is packed full of luxurious amenities, such as a huge open gym, a spa lounge with Jacuzzi and sauna, and a touch-and-go helipad, and promises an unparalleled yachting experience to both conservative and modern owners.

Design Storz is an international design studio with over 40 years of experience in different fields, such as automotive design, product design, graphic design, brand building, and more. It was founded in 1982 by F1 racing engineer Achim Storz, and initially, it focused on developing solutions and prototypes for the automotive sector, having worked as a supporting design studio for renowned brands, including Audi, Porsche, BMW, and VW.

The firm has gradually branched out, and the latest Skia concept comes from its yacht design division. The 358-foot (109-meter) superyacht is envisioned with a svelte, sporty profile with sharp lines and geometric details that give it a dynamic look. The dual-tone exterior and those geometric accents make it appear light, agile, and in perpetual motion, even when docked.

“Skia has an iconic graphical element on its profile that is inspired by athletic sportswear,” Achim Storz explains. “This element combined with the dual-tone paint gives Skia a strong stance and dynamic profile. The long character lines and splines, emerged from our first sketches, are key as they balance both light and shadow to create a state-of-the-art sculpture on water.”

In order to allow guests onboard to enjoy an authentic yachting experience, Skia is envisioned with an abundance of al-fresco areas, including a generous retractable swimming platform and spacious aft decks that ensure unobstructed ocean views and a seamless flow. Guests can enjoy those views from a giant cascading glass pool.

The beach club is a relaxing area with lounge seating and unhindered access to the large swimming platform.

Other highlights of the design include a huge open gym, a spa lounge with Jacuzzi and sauna that offers direct access to the water, as well as al-fresco dining and additional seating setups on the upper deck.

With no bulkheads or other constraints to the imagination of the designer, Skia can offer an unrestricted luxury space inside. It can be built with a flexible layout and maximized ceiling height on both the main and upper decks. Accommodation on board this new conceptual design would be for up to 14 guests and 30 crew members, including the vessel’s captain.

Since Skia is just a concept for the time being, there are no details about propulsion. However, considering the private maritime sector is currently under pressure to build watercraft with lower emissions and modern yachtsmen are increasingly conscious about their environmental footprint, if this conceptual vessel is turned into reality, it is likely to come with hybrid or fully green propulsion.
