Master pastry chef Christian Escribà and his team have dedicated this year’s Easter Mona to the America’s Cup, which will be held in the city of Barcelona this summer.
The Escribà family is committed to the city of Barcelona and all its events, and they have taken this opportunity to showcase the tradition of the Mona to the world. The Mona is deeply rooted in our culture.
A team of four, led by Christian and Pol Escribà, with Daniel Domínguez as head of the chocolate department and an assistant, dedicated over 18 hours to create a sculpture. The sculpture is 110 cm tall and weighs 30 kg of dark chocolate, and is an exact replica of the coveted trophy of the competition.
The elaboration of the Mona represented a double technological and artisan challenge. Collaboration with the Consortium of the Zona Franca and IAM3DHUB has enabled the exact 3D production of the Cup. However, achieving the artisan finishes required a great deal of precision due to the high complexity of the moldings and filigrees on the trophy. The end result is truly spectacular.
On Saturday, Christian Escribà and his team presented their work at the Experience Cup event held at Moll d’Espanya in Barcelona. The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, and the Vice President of the America’s Cup Barcelona were in attendance.
During the event, Jaume Collboni emphasised. Aurora Catà has praised the excellent reception that the city of Barcelona and Catalan society have given to the America’s Cup. She also noted that Christian Escribà, an international ambassador of the city, chose the America’s Cup and its centennial trophy as inspiration for this Mona.
