80 Boats from 8 Countries to participate in the 51st Conde de Godó BMW Trophy

Everything is ready at the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona to host the 51st edition of the Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy from May 29 to June 2, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.

This Wednesday, May 29, is reserved for the confirmation of the registrations of the 80 boats registered in an edition where the city of Barcelona already breathes an atmosphere of the America’s Cup, with all the bases fully operational and teams presenting their new AC75 boats that are already sailing in Barcelona waters.

Boats from eight countries will compete: Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Great Britain, Montenegro, the Netherlands, and Uruguay.

On Thursday, May 30, the 51st Conde de Godó BMW Trophy will start with the first coastal race for the ORC Double Handed class, and from Friday, May 31, the rest of the ORC classes and the J70 one-designs will come into play.

The different race courses for the ORC and J70 classes will be located between the Port Olimpic and Port Fòrum.

ORC Double Handed

The Real Club Náutico de Barcelona has become one of the references for ORC Double Handed races, especially after organizing the ORC Double Handed Barcelona World Championship 2023 in 2023.

About 20 ORC Double Handed boats will participate, opening the Conde de Godó BMW Trophy for the third consecutive edition with a coastal course starting at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 30. The second race will be held on Saturday, June 1.

The Organizing Committee has planned nine possible courses, both north and south, to be chosen based on weather conditions each day, ranging from the longest course of 179 nautical miles from Barcelona to the Gulf of Roses passing through the Begur Odas and back to Barcelona; to the shortest course of 66 miles from Barcelona, buoy at El Masnou, down to Vilanova i la Geltrú and ending in Barcelona.

Additionally, there are other intermediate courses ranging from 70 to 162 nautical miles.

Powerful ORC Fleet

The ORC class will be divided into four categories: ORC 0-1, ORC 2, ORC 3, ORC 4-5, although the groups will be determined on Thursday, May 31, when final registrations are confirmed.

Their race program will follow the traditional format of the Conde de Godó BMW Trophy, with three days of competition starting on Friday, May 31 at 2:30 PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM, with a maximum of 7 races in total, distributed over the three days, and with a discard starting from the fourth race. On the final day, the last starting time limit will be 2:30 PM.

The ORC fleet will be the most numerous with about fifty boats, ranging from ORC 0 to ORC 5.

J70 One-Designs and Women’s Category

The J70 is the one-design chosen for the Conde de Godó Trophy to sail in real time. The Barcelona Winter and Spring Series circuits are well-known during the winter and summer seasons, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.

The J70s will sail in the Bravo course, the closest to the harbor entrance, with windward-leeward courses. They will sail a total of 10 races with a maximum of four per day. A discard will come into play starting from the sixth race.

The J70 class will be divided into two categories: J70 and J70 Women. Although they will sail together, the female crews will have their own ranking, in addition to competing for the overall title.

For the J70s, the last starting time on Sunday will be 3:30 PM.

A total of 15 units will participate, of which 5 will be female crews.

The Village as a Meeting Point

The Conde de Godó BMW Trophy Village is the traditional meeting point for crews, sponsors, and organizers before and after the regatta. It will open on Thursday, May 31 with the weather briefing and breakfasts. In the afternoon, upon the sailors’ arrival, products offered by Estrella Damm, Royal Bliss, and Gramona will be available.

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 2 at 5:00 PM.

Organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, the 51st Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy is sponsored by BMW and supported by La Vanguardia, the Barcelona City Council, and the Generalitat of Catalonia. Collaborators include Mapfre, Engel & Völkers, Veri, Royal Bliss, Estrella Damm, Isdin, Gramona, Tropicfeel, De Antonio Yachts, and Boero Yacht Coatings.

The 51st Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy is part of the Mediterranean Sailing Circuit, along with the PalmaVela Regatta organized by the RCN Palma and the SM La Reina Trophy organized by the RCN Valencia.
