The 2024 edition of Ibiza JoySail has reached its maximum number of entries, with twenty teams registered for this unique and enjoyable Superyacht regatta. Scheduled to take place from September 19th to 22nd, the event will be hosted at Marina Ibiza. This invitational regatta is designed to create an exclusive atmosphere, ensuring all teams can race safely while enjoying the exceptional offerings of Marina Ibiza both onshore and on the water.
A Growing Tradition
Established in 2021, Ibiza JoySail has seen impressive growth. The inaugural edition attracted four Superyacht teams, which increased to eleven in 2022 and thirteen in 2023. This year’s record entry includes a diverse range of yachts, from the newly launched 194-foot Frers ketch, Maximus, to the Dubois 147-footer, Gitana, and a trio of the new 67-foot Baltic Café Racers. These yachts are drawn to the regatta’s reputation, timing, and the opportunity to compete in beautiful surroundings.
Southern Wind’s Strong Presence
This year, six Southern Wind Superyachts will compete, including two SW96s—Ammonite and the newly launched Liberty. The fleet also features the SW108 Hybrid Gelliceaux, which was launched in Autumn 2023 and won its class in Saint Barths this spring. The SW 105 Kiboko raced at Ibiza JoySail in 2023, and the SW-RP 90 All Smoke returns for the third time. Joining for the first time is Morgana, the SW-RP 100.
Nautor’s Swan Represented by Champions
Nautor’s Swan will be represented by regular participants, including the defending champion and record holder Moat, a 115-footer that remains undefeated at Ibiza JoySail, and the 80-footer Dark Horse, which won in its category last year. Newcomers include the recently refitted Swan 100 L’Hippocampe, for whom this will be the first regatta in the Mediterranean after competing at the Heineken Saint Marten regatta and the Saint Barths Bucket this spring.
Baltic Café Racers Debut
Three Baltic 68 Café Racers—Ganesha, Pink Gin, and Open Season—will debut at Ibiza JoySail. Alfredo Mella, captain of Ganesha, remarks, “The most important thing for us will be to be competitive. In Ibiza, we will be competing with the three Baltic 68 CRs, all together, with different configurations (rudders and keels), making it a good regatta to draw conclusions from.”
Returning Champions
Juan Ball’s Moat returns to Ibiza after winning this summer’s Giorgio Armani regatta in Porto Cervo. Diego Stefani, Moat’s captain, emphasizes, “Ibiza JoySail rewards good sailing on the water and good fun on land. The regatta is unique in allowing owners to enjoy both the racing and social events equally. We expect to win again, especially as we have won the last editions.”
Newcomers Embrace Fun and Competition
First-timers such as Maximus, a potent new design, and the Swan 100 L’Hippocampe are looking forward to the competition and social events. Lars Loftus, captain/helm of Maximus, explains, “We like the look of the Ibiza JoySail event and its competitive entry list. We also look forward to the record run from Mallorca to Ibiza as a precursor to the event.” Arno Böhnert, project manager for L’Hippocampe, adds, “We aim to compete and have fun. The regatta offers a nice mixture of professional team and the owner’s friends, creating a strong team vibe.”
Highly Valued by Participants
Ibiza JoySail’s Kety Sierra sums up the event’s appeal: “It’s great to see how the Ibiza JoySail regatta is highly valued by both usual teams and new ones. We put a lot of effort and enthusiasm into setting up Ibiza JoySail because we believed in the concept of thrilling record runs between Mallorca and Ibiza, amazing race courses around Ibiza and Formentera, and a fun social program tailored to discerning owners and teams.”
