American Magic Helmsman Paul Goodison Injured After Fall, Misses Louis Vuitton Cup Race

American Magic helmsman Paul Goodison was reportedly injured after a fall on his team’s boat at their America’s Cup base in Barcelona. As a result, he was not listed to sail on Monday, raising questions about his immediate future in the competition.

Goodison, who shares helming duties with Tom Slingsby, was replaced by Lucas Calabrese on the crew list for the final day of the Louis Vuitton Cup knockout round. The injury reportedly occurred after Goodison fell through a hatch on Patriot following Saturday’s racing. American Magic has not yet responded to queries regarding his condition.

Goodison, a British skipper who is both an Olympic gold medallist and a former world champion, has been a key figure in American Magic’s strong performance so far, helping sail Patriot to third place on the challenger scoreboard with one race remaining in the round-robin stage.

American Magic was scheduled to face Team New Zealand on Sunday, but racing was abandoned due to stormy conditions followed by light winds. It remains unclear when Goodison might return to sailing, with the final day of the round-robin scheduled to resume on Monday.
