Monaco Hosts 4th Annual Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous to Drive Innovation in Yachting

Monaco Marina Management (M3) will host the 4th edition of the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous on September 22-23, 2024, at the Yacht Club de Monaco. This prominent networking event will bring together over 250 global delegates, including entrepreneurs, industrialists, investors, promoters, and marina developers. “The creativity, engagement, solutions, and expertise of participants are absolutely essential if we want to design the marinas of tomorrow,” said José Marco Casellini, CEO of M3.

Part of the broader “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting” initiative, the event is supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Principality’s Digital Transition Programme (Extended Monaco), and major sponsors like UBS, MB92 Group, and Bombardier. These organizations have played a pivotal role in organizing the event since its inception in 2021.

A Focus on Sustainable Innovation and Collaboration

Following the Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous held earlier this year, the Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous is designed to foster a global vision of modernization in the yachting sector. “As in the automobile industry, where infrastructure adapts to new generation vehicles, yachting must integrate technological innovations to meet the needs of tomorrow’s yachts,” stresses Bernard d’Alessandri, President of Cluster Yachting Monaco and Secretary General of the Yacht Club de Monaco. “Without suitable infrastructure and facilities, it will be difficult to move the sector forward together. It is essential to mobilize all stakeholders, from yacht designers to marina managers, to ensure a transition to smarter, more sustainable yachting.”

The event’s focus is proving successful, with new participants such as the Italian Yacht Masters Association and the prestigious Sanlorenzo shipyard, which will host a networking breakfast aboard the 50Steel Almax, the world’s first superyacht equipped with the Reformer – Fuel Cell modular system. Developed in partnership with Siemens Energy, this system transforms green methanol into hydrogen and electricity to power onboard hospitality equipment.

Spotlight on Innovation: E-Catalogue 2024 and Global Projects

The 2024 edition will feature an E-Catalogue highlighting sustainable innovations and architectural projects from around the globe. With 29 nationalities represented, this initiative underscores a worldwide commitment to climate-adapted infrastructures. The E-Catalogue includes entries from marinas known for their excellence in sustainability, such as Porto Carlo Riva (Italy), Puerto Sherry (Spain), Alcudiamar Marina (Balearic Islands), and Astir Marina Vouliagmenis (Greece), among others.

Notable newcomers in the 2024 E-Catalogue include Porto Habacoa (Bahamas), which is set to become the largest superyacht marina in North America, and the AMAALA destination in Saudi Arabia, which integrates sustainability and wellness along the Red Sea.

A Hub for Professional Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

The event will provide a platform for more than 250 professionals to exchange ideas and establish strategic partnerships. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the latest innovations from startups and scale-ups, and participate in round-table discussions on how technology, banking, and architecture can transform the future of marinas.

This year, a call for proposals invites architects and students to design innovative floating marinas for ecologically sensitive areas. The competition is chaired by Zaha Hadid Architects, with support from Jean-Michel Wilmotte and yacht designer Dan Lenard.

Recognizing Excellence: The International Smart & Sustainable Marina Awards

The event will conclude with the International Smart & Sustainable Marina Awards on September 23rd, recognizing excellence in three categories: Startups & Scale-ups, Marinas, and Architects (Professional & Student). These awards provide valuable recognition and opportunities for growth, as evidenced by past winners like François Frigola, CEO and co-founder of Nereid Water, who secured multiple new contracts following his win in 2023.
