Fuerteventura enters the game in the 44Cup

The 44Cup circuit has announced that Marina Jandia, Fuerteventura, will host one of its events for the first time in its history. The event will take place from 19-23 November 2025 at the new Calero Marinas development, located in Morro Jable. This milestone marks a new chapter for the island, which has become a key destination for international sailing.

A High Level Event

During the presentation of the event, which took place today, it was highlighted that the competition will bring together 72 elite sailors, including Olympic medallists, America’s Cup winners and world champions, representing 17 nationalities. Bertrand Favre, director of the 44Cup class, underlined the longstanding partnership with Calero Marinas since 2008 and expressed his enthusiasm for opening a new destination in Jandía for the international circuit.

Favre also mentioned the economic impact that the event could generate, estimated at 1.5 million euros, as well as the media impact, which is valued at approximately one million euros. ‘It is a unique opportunity for Fuerteventura and for the development of sailing in the region,” he said.

Institutional Support and Promotion of the Island

José Juan Calero, CEO of Calero Marinas, highlighted the company’s efforts to highlight the value of the destinations where it organises high-level events. ‘This event will be crucial for the international promotion of Fuerteventura, attracting a high-level type of nautical tourism,” he said, thanking the institutions for their support of initiatives that benefit the island.

The Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, emphasised the importance of supporting this event from the outset, recognising the opportunities it will open up to attract high-level tourists and improve the local economy. ‘We thank Calero Marinas for bringing initiatives of this kind to Morro Jable,” said Jorge.

Carmen Alonso, councillor of the Fuerteventura Cabildo, also highlighted the sustainability of high-level sailing events and the importance of developing infrastructures such as Marina Jandía to facilitate this type of competition.

A promising future for Fuerteventura

The celebration of the 44Cup in Marina Jandia is a significant step towards the consolidation of the island as a reference destination in the world of sailing. With the arrival of this prestigious event, Fuerteventura not only hopes to attract competitors and visitors, but also to position itself firmly on the map of international nautical tourism.

With the support of local authorities and private initiative, the island is preparing to welcome the sailing elite in what promises to be an unforgettable event, which will not only benefit the local economy, but will also highlight the beauty and potential of Fuerteventura as a tourist destination.
