The 44Cup circuit has announced that Marina Jandia, Fuerteventura, will host one of its events for the first time in its history. The event will take place from 19-23 November 2025 at the new Calero Marinas development, located in Morro Jable. This milestone marks a new chapter for the island, which has become a key destination for international sailing.
A High Level Event
During the presentation of the event, which took place today, it was highlighted that the competition will bring together 72 elite sailors, including Olympic medallists, America’s Cup winners and world champions, representing 17 nationalities. Bertrand Favre, director of the 44Cup class, underlined the longstanding partnership with Calero Marinas since 2008 and expressed his enthusiasm for opening a new destination in JandÃa for the international circuit.
Favre also mentioned the economic impact that the event could generate, estimated at 1.5 million euros, as well as the media impact, which is valued at approximately one million euros. ‘It is a unique opportunity for Fuerteventura and for the development of sailing in the region,” he said.
Institutional Support and Promotion of the Island
José Juan Calero, CEO of Calero Marinas, highlighted the company’s efforts to highlight the value of the destinations where it organises high-level events. ‘This event will be crucial for the international promotion of Fuerteventura, attracting a high-level type of nautical tourism,” he said, thanking the institutions for their support of initiatives that benefit the island.
The Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, emphasised the importance of supporting this event from the outset, recognising the opportunities it will open up to attract high-level tourists and improve the local economy. ‘We thank Calero Marinas for bringing initiatives of this kind to Morro Jable,” said Jorge.
Carmen Alonso, councillor of the Fuerteventura Cabildo, also highlighted the sustainability of high-level sailing events and the importance of developing infrastructures such as Marina JandÃa to facilitate this type of competition.
