Excitement is building ahead of SailGP’s debut visit to Auckland next weekend, with the 12-strong F50 fleet set to do battle in New Zealand’s City of Sails on January 18-19.
The ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix will mark the league’s first ever visit to Auckland after consecutive events in Seasons 3 and 4 in Christchurch on the South Island.

The fleet will race across a two day racing schedule on Saturday and Sunday before the top teams on points proceed into the winner-takes-all Final to decide the event winner.
SailGP’s Race Stadium, which includes big screens, race commentary, live experiences and post-racing entertainment, as well as the opportunity to buy delicious food and drink and official SailGP merchandise, will be open to fans from 1.30pm-7pm NZDT, which racing on both days will take place between 4pm-5.30pm NZDT.
The racecourse meanwhile will be perfectly positioned on Waitematā Harbour, just minutes from downtown Auckland. Fans bringing their own boats in the Bring Your Own Boat program will be positioned in three different areas; by the Auckland Harbour Bridge, Viaduct Harbour and near Stanley Point, while the Race Stadium and Tech Site will be situated in the Wynyard Quarter.

How to buy tickets
There are still ticket options available for fans wanting to watch the league’s action-packed entertainment in Auckland, from the shoreside option of the Waterfront Grandstand to the on-water Adrenaline Yachts programme. But fans should act fast – Waterfront Premium, Bring Your Own Boat and Shoreline Villas tickets are already sold out.

Which teams have won in New Zealand so far?
SailGP has visited New Zealand twice before – both times racing on Whakaraupō, Lyttelton Harbour near Christchurch on the South Island.
Season 3’s visit saw Canada – then driven by Kiwi Phil Robertson – secure its first ever event win after beating home favorites New Zealand and season leaders Australia in a neck and neck showdown.
