Galateia Shatters Record at 70th Tre Golfi Regatta, Claims Line Honours and the Gustavo d’Andrea Trophy

In a breathtaking show of speed and strategy, Galateia, the Wallycento co-owned by David Leuschen and Chris Flowers, claimed line honours in the 70th edition of the Tre Golfi Regatta, smashing the previous course record and seizing the prestigious Gustavo d’Andrea Trophy.

With a blistering time of 13 hours, 19 minutes, and 42 seconds, Galateia crushed the 2023 record held by Jethou (Sir Peter Ogden), beating it by more than two hours. The yacht completed the iconic 150-mile course at 5:54 AM this morning, powering through the Gulfs of Naples, Gaeta, and Salerno under a steady northeast breeze and overtaking competitors in a thrilling nighttime battle for supremacy.

Just minutes behind, Magic Carpet — owned by Sir Lindsay Owen Jones — crossed the line to claim second place, followed by Bella Mente, the high-performance Maxi 72 of Hap Fauth. Trailing close were Jolt (Peter Harrison) and Bullitt, the Wally 93 skippered by Andrea Recordati.

“A stunning success for the 70th edition of the Tre Golfi Regatta,” said Roberto Mottola di Amato, President of Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia. “Galateia crossed the line at dawn, and all those who arrived after praised this edition for its thrilling conditions and timeless beauty.”

High Drama at Sea

The race wasn’t without its dramatic moments. Capricorno (Alessandro Del Bono), with five-time Olympic medalist Torben Grael calling tactics, was forced to retire after a headsail failure. Anywave-Safilens (Alberto Leghissa) dropped out due to mast base issues, and Walliño, helmed by IMA President Benoît de Froidmont, struck a rock near Ponza — though fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The fleet, launched under 14–18 knot Grecale winds gusting over 20, raced through the night in a scene described by sailors as unforgettable. The legendary route passed iconic Mediterranean landmarks including Ischia, Ponza, Capri, and Li Galli, delivering what many are calling one of the most electrifying editions of the regatta in recent memory.
