Sunseeker Announces Proposed Restructure as 200 Roles Come Under Review

British luxury yacht manufacturer Sunseeker International has announced a proposed reorganization of its business operations that could see up to 200 roles made redundant, representing around 10 percent of its current workforce. The move comes in response to a cooling global market and is aimed at enhancing long-term operational efficiency.

In a statement released today, the company confirmed that the planned restructure will primarily impact support, leadership, and management functions, as part of a broader effort to streamline operations and refocus resources.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly,” said Andrea Frabetti, CEO of Sunseeker International. “We are fully aware of the impact this will have on the affected employees, and our priority now is to engage openly and respectfully throughout the consultation process and provide as much support as possible.”

The announcement follows a period of macroeconomic turbulence, with Sunseeker citing political and economic uncertainties as contributing factors to a softening of global demand in the luxury yacht market.

Strategic Shift Amid Challenging Conditions

The company will now enter a minimum 45-day consultation process, as required by UK employment law, during which time it will work with employees and representatives to explore options and provide clarity on the changes ahead.

According to Sunseeker, the restructuring is strategic in nature, forming part of an ongoing plan to:

  • Reduce operating costs
  • Increase efficiency
  • Concentrate investment in innovation and product development

Despite the challenges, Frabetti emphasized that the brand remains committed to its manufacturing footprint in the UK:

“I want to reassure our people, our partners, and the wider community that Sunseeker remains deeply committed to manufacturing in Poole and Portland. These sites are, and will continue to be, at the heart of our operations as we evolve for the future.”

Looking Ahead

Sunseeker has been vocal about its ambition to advance its next generation of yachts, including developments in its superyacht range. The company has reiterated that fulfilling its global order book remains a top priority, alongside delivering innovative designs to meet the evolving expectations of high-net-worth clients worldwide.

While the restructure reflects difficult but necessary decisions in a complex global landscape, Sunseeker’s leadership is positioning the move as an essential step to strengthen resilience and ensure long-term sustainability for one of the UK’s most iconic yacht brands.
