Columbus Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, launched and carried out the first sea trials of the new 50-meter Sport M / Y K2 at the Ancona shipyard.
The success of the SPORT line by Columbus Yachts, born in 2011 with the award-winning 40-meter models, is confirmed. Vertical bow and sleek line, this project broke the stylistic features of the era and became an icon of sportiness and elegance. Today the fleet is enriched with a new 50-meter model that contains the distinctive elements of this design, combining new aesthetic nuances with an engineering development of the hull that guarantees a high level of comfort even in rough sea conditions during navigation.
Columbus Sport 50 M / Y K2 has naval engineering carried out by Palumbo Superyachts in collaboration with the Hydrotec studio. The external lines and the interior design bear the signature of LUCA DINI Design & Architecture.
Characterized by numerous new solutions, designed at the request of the Owner who is on his third project with Palumbo Superyachts, M / Y K2 welcomes 11 guests in five comfortable cabins with 11 crew members divided into seven cabins.
Columbus sport 50m M / Y K2, launch and sea trials
Hull and superstructure in aluminum and tonnage of 499 GT are certainly one of the strengths of this boat which, combined with a maximum draft of 2.2 meters, make it unique on the market capable of navigating all shallow seas.
Powered by two 2600 HP MTU engines, the M / Y K2 reaches a maximum speed of 21.5 knots, a cruising speed of 17 knots and a wide range for transoceanic crossings.
The analysis of the performance at the lowest speeds has returned particularly interesting values, with consumption in the order of 70 l / h at 10 knots, a particularly positive result if we consider the characteristics of the hull.
Another aspect particularly taken care of, from a technical point of view, was that relating to the containment of noise and vibrations: in the sea tests, just carried out, the Columbus 50 S achieved extremely low noise levels in the guest rooms, particularly significant because they were obtained. at a value of 85% of the maximum power of the propulsion system, at a speed of just over 20 knots.
The official debut of the Columbus Sport 50 M / Y K2 is expected at the next Monaco Yacht Show in September.
